I remembered my niece once shared with us a naughty little joke.

She asked, “What animal is very hamsup (cheeky)?”
Me: The LEMUR (King Julian) in Madagascar!
Hazel: WRONG!
Me: Then what?
Hazel: ZEBRA!Β Β Coz zebra will un-ZIP and show off its BRA!

LoL! Cheeky little girl she was…

Today, let’s not be cheeky and make a zebra as a teaching aid instead. This is great to be used when introducing ABCs to the little one. I was in one of the localkindy around when I saw this on their Art Board so here we are reproducing the art work πŸ™‚

I prepared a Z template and get the kids to use it to draw the outline.

Cut out the Z

Paint stripes on the letter Z

Paint a strip of paper black, let dry and cut little strips as the mane.

Paste the mane onto the Z, add ears and eyes and the ZEBRA is done! πŸ™‚

Let’s make a bird today. Not an angry bird but a cute one πŸ˜€

Toilet Paper Roll Bird

Paint a toilet paper roll any colour to your liking.

Paint your thumb white and stamp as the white eye. Paint your pointer black and stamp again as the eyeball πŸ˜€

Cut two triangles out of orange construction paper for the beak

Spread PVA glue all over the toilet roll

Now it’s the fun part – Sticking feathers onto the bird.

Instead of buying feathers from craft store, I bought a brand new feather duster and stripped the feathers from it instead. It’s much cheaper that way!

After the success of making our very own Pyssla Beads Angry Bird keychain, we proceeded to making coasters today.

Angry Bird coasters *well, the one in the middle is NOT Angry Bird though, it’s DOMO πŸ˜€*

It’s basically the same as making keychain except we don’t hook a key ring on it.

Blue Angry Bird coaster

Red Angry Bird Coaster

I wanted to add background to make the coaster square but it turned out too large for a coaster so I scrapped the idea totally. Let this be a unique coaster that is neither round nor square πŸ˜€

The coasters, keychains and even fridge magnets are now on sale in the Studio. Coming soon is the green pig and yellow bird πŸ˜€

A student showed me a picture of an Angry Bird made of Pyssla beads and asked me if I can make that for him. Well, we tried and guess what? We made a key chain out of it!

Angry Bird Keychain

I think we got it right… πŸ˜€

After ironing the beads

Angry Bird keychain πŸ™‚

P/S: I really would like to give credit to the person who created the pyssla design for this Angry Bird but I just don’t know where my student got the picture from. If you are that person, please do drop me a line and I’ll link it back to you. Thank you.

Here’s how to insert the keychain to the Angry Bird:
* Poke a hole in the Angry Bird and insert the keychain

* The bird will be angrier coz u poked it

* It doesnt like to be poked
Cheers and have a nice day πŸ˜€

He came home from his Mandarin class the other day with this jellyfish craft. It was a very cute craft indeed but when I asked him, he said most of the work was done by the teachers. He got to paste the tentacles though…

Jellyfish craft

Since he did not get to do it entirely by himself in school, I let him do it in the Studio today.

Paint a jellyfish and let it dry

Cut. He can cut perfectly now πŸ˜€

Paste the eyes

Paste the tentacles

Tah-dah! Equally cute and 100% his own effort! *thanx to his teachers for the idea though* πŸ˜€

Origami cranes for Japan

Posted by Merryn | Posted in Animal Crafts, Bird, Origami, Paper Crafts | Posted on 21-04-2011 | 8,767 views

We were in Sunway Giza this evening and saw this..

Let’s fold origami cranes for Japan!

They say anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will have their heart’s desire come true.

Let’s together fold MORE than one thousand origami cranes for the Land of the Rising Sun in light of their recent quake and tsunami plight.

Origami papers and simple instructions were provided.

Ethan trying to figure out what to do..

He is getting it… it is starting to turn out to be a crane πŸ˜€

There! His origami crane. I think the tail is a little bit off but it’s okay. It’s the effort and thoughts that counts right? He is barely 4 years old, give him a break! πŸ˜›

Ready to insert the origami crane into the box provided.

We did not one but four origami cranes. We would love to stay on and do more but we ran out of time.

Will definitely go back to Sunway Giza soon to make more origami cranes.

Our Heart Goes to the people of Japan…
